5 Stars Great TV!
We just got this TV and it lived up to all our expectations and more. We chose plasma because it could be viewed at any angle and, indeed, my husband sits right up close and at right angles to the set and he sees the screen fine. We have a Mac computer and we already had the Airport Extreme router. I just had to get the Airport Express router to plug in by the TV with an ethernet cable and after a little fiddling with the settings, voila, we had a wireless connection. I love that Viera Cast has now partnered with Amazon. We just downloaded two rentals from Amazon videos on demand through Viera Cast and it worked perfectly. The first one I accessed directly from the Viera Cast page on the TV and it streamed down immediately for instant watching. But the second one I accessed from the computer on the Amazon website and downloaded it into the Amazon library so I could watch it later. Then I accessed the Amazon Library from Viera Cast on the TV to watch it later on. That way gives a little more versatility. I highly recommend this set.

2 Stars Good Movie images, but I got a bad one…waiting for replacement (EDIT: not good for gaming IMO)
I purchased this tv after tons of research…as has been said, the picture looks amazing, and set up was nice and quick. Pilot Shipping was good on their end too.

So i get it set up, but once I dimmed the lights and looked at the blank, black, powered on screen…a two inch wide vertical black bar (blacker than the rest of the set) runs down the near center of the screen. EDIT: I have noticed that at the instant the TV is powered on, the offending black bar is almost a grey color, then quickly changes to a dark black.

Basically, it is very noticeable in the dark (a home theatre setting)….during the day, you have to look for it, but it is there…but you can only see it when its a totally black image. Not cool when watching anything 16:9 letterboxed…as you can see it… FYI It shows up regardless of input, or with no input…obviously some sort of manufacturing defect in the TV itself. TV was made in March 2009.

Anyway, forum browsing, phone calls to assorted high end retailers/installers tells me this is not at all normal, and Panasonic reps. agreed. They were very easy to reach and were helpful, by the way. I dialed the number on the manual, and after one ring I was on the line with a real, live Panasonic representative…very nice.

Unfortunately, Panasonic’s only real option is to send out a local tech to repair the two day old set…no thanks. I just dropped a grand, I don’t need some tech tearing it apart already. I contacted Amazon, and they were very helpful and they are sending me a replacement set next week. I have been very impressed with Amazon regarding this issue.

In conclusion, I’d recommend this set, but I encourage you to check yours for defects once it arrives. My defect would only be discovered in a dark room, as during daylight, you cannot see it. But still, this is a fairly obvious defect that they should have caught before it left the factory… I’d also encourage the purchasing of the extended warranty for piece of mind. I have heard too many horror stories about TVs going bad lately to stick with a single year of coverage.

EDIT: I have discovered after viewing and playing games an untolerable phosphor trails problem with this set, particularly playing Call of Duty 4 on the xbox 360. I am beginning to second guess this entire purchase. I am hoping I might see an improvement with the new set. If not I may be forced to return it too and go back to my old tv. It will be worth the restocking fee, if necessary. I really just assumed that TVs would be to a point where phosphor trails wouldn’t be an issue. Go figure. I know that it could be my eyes, but I see them and my GF does, as does my good friend. Its very obvious at about 25 hours worth of viewing.

4 Stars Panasonic VIERA G10 TC-P42G10 42 in 1080p Plasma
Great picture, features, etc. Disappointing audio system. Sound is very weak, have resorted to aux speakers.

5 Stars WOW! We love this TV!
We have had this TV for about 2 weeks now and we love it. The picture is amazing. You do need an external sound system to watch movies, but we found that to be the case with all flat screen TVs.

5 Stars Excellent TV/Excellent value
Have had this TV for almost 2 months. Shipped promptly from Amazon - best price on the web. Excellent picture, color, clarity and no motion blur! I’m somewhat of a “techie” and did a significant amount of research on TV’s - LCD vs. Plasma. Bottom line: Plasma has better blacks, better off angle viewing, less motion blur for fast moving scenes and far better value than LCD. I was convinced LCD was better until I did the research, did some comparison viewing, and looked at the costs. I’ve also been a SONY fan for many years (CRT’s, walkmans, headphones, CD players, etc) but am very impressed with Panasonic’s product here. Easy to use, great picture, and THX mode makes movies and TV shows look like they should, not like a computer monitor….highly recommend this set and Amazon.
