Hitachi P50T501 50-Inch HD1080 Plasma HDTV

1280 x 1080 Resolution / ATSC & NTSC Tuner / DCR & SD Card Slot / 3 HDMI & 2 Component input / 20W Bottom Design Speaker System / 4 Aspect Modes
The Hitachi P50T501 is a 50-inch plasma HDTV that brings extraordinary value with its unique HD1080 resolution standard.
Outstanding Picture Quality
With a unique 1280 x 1080 resolution, the P50T501 has over 1,000 lines of vertical resolution, allowing it to have a line-for-line match of incoming 1080i TV signals. While it is not the full 1080p resolution, it has a better resolution than 720p panels at a similar price. Picture quality is further enhanced, thanks to ClearWindow technology that reduces the visibility of a grid structure and maximizes brightness and clarity.

Timed swtiching allows picture settings to automatically adjust for changing ambient light conditions. |
With the PictureMaster HD IV processor, all video inputs are scaled up to match the native resolution of the unit to ensure a detailed picture no matter the source. For a better picture, the processor also performs noise reduction and other picture enhancements, such as dynamic contrast and histogram processing, automatic 3:2 film enhancement, and the capability for 16-bit color. Users can select between four HD and six SD aspect modes, and three color temperature settings. The television can also be put in a split-screen mode so that two programs can be viewed simultaneously.
Well Connected
The P50T501 has three HDMI SimplayHD inputs (two rear, one front), the highest quality connection available that has both high definition video and audio in one cable. It also has two component video inputs, one S-Video input, four A/V inputs, one RF/Antenna input, and an SD card input that allows you to view your photos on the screen. Outputs include one AV monitor output (fixed audio), one S-Video monitor output, and one optical digital audio output. You can connect the optical digital audio output with your home theater system to obtain surround sound when the built-in 20-watt speaker system isn’t quite enough. The TV speaker can then be used as a center speaker.
The HDTV are built-in ATSC/NTSC tuners, both of which are combined into one tuning memory for seamless selection of channels, regardless of format. The unit is also QAM-digital-cable compatible.
Day and Night Differences
The P50T501 allows for three custom settings that match the picture settings with accompanying ambient light conditions so that you get the optimal picture and contrast settings no matter the hour. Additionally, the anti-reflective screen ensures a quality picture by reducing glare and deepening blacks for more contrast. The television also features multiple screen saver and power saving modes for efficiency when not in use. A swivel stand is included that can be rotated to allow for optimal viewing from every seat in the room.
The P50T501 is backed by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.

5 Stars Best Picture in TV Store
Had this set for a year, and no buyers remorse! It really was the best looking tv at the store. Looks unbelievable with hd directv even better with blu ray. I would highly recomend this set, and with the money you save, buy a blu ray player{i recomend a playstion 3}. Seriously, buy this tv! Looks better than sony or samsung. Buy it.
1 Stars Good luck with longevity
First the good points - I loved the picture. My version had a swivel pedestal for around the room viewing. I was perfectly happy with the television while it worked. But…
One year and 3 months after I purchased it the lower drive board blew out. Of course, the warranty was only 1 year. After I replaced the board, BOTH the upper and lower boards blew out 30 days later. My TV repairman states the plasma screen is defective and any cost of repair is greater than the price of the unit. Hitachi customer service is completely unsympathetic. I will not buy a Hitachi again.
4 Stars Great picture, but it doesn’t have full horizontal resolution
This set has 1280 x 1080 pixels and not the full 1920 x 1080 that a full 1080p set has.
Although this set doesn’t have the same black levels and clarity of the full 1080p plasma sets coming out now from Pioneer and Panasonic, the colour levels are accurate and deep.
Hitachi’s plasmas also rank well with Consumer Reports for reliability, but at this price you might not care.
If you don’t have the money to fork out for a full 1080p plasma, you will probably not want to look much further than this set.
5 Stars Awsome TV! - Great Value!
No human eyes can tell the difference between 1080i and p. I have seen them side to side and there is no difference! While it is not bleeding edge, you will love this set. The picture is astounding and vivid. I hooked it up to regular rabit ears and it had no problem with local channels at 1st auto program. I paid $999.00 for this TV and got a great deal (after thanksgiving - black friday sale). The stand is fine when you consider the weight of the TV (100 lb) and works fine when you turn the TV. No one is going to turn this fast… due to size.
